Ravi Choudhary has been covering politics, sports, and social issues for the past 15 years in India. Born into an agricultural background, he never envisaged himself holding a camera. He had no idea about photography till his graduating years. However, symmetry and emotional network had an immense hold on his visual appetite. He, soon delved into documenting various elements of life. A photography course instilled the confidence in him to pursue it further. Ravi started his photojournalism journey with The Indian Express in 2009. Presently employed with the Press Trust of India as a photojournalist, Ravi has previously also worked with the Hindustan Times, The New Indian Express & the Governance Now.
Initial years were extra toiling for him to build a base for a better understanding of the art.Ravi has always attempted to archive the pivotal visual moments in the best of his capacity. From the Nepal Earthquake to Manipur riots of 2017, Naxal issues of Chhattisgarh, Kumbh and all the historic protests in New Delhi spanning from the Anna’s India against corruption in 2011 till the wrestler’s in 2023. His compelling work on acid attack victims/survivors brought him the honour of the Ramnath Goenka Award in 2014. As a recipient of the National Foundation for India Grant, he held an exhibition which drove accolades for him.
Some other grave social and environment issues that caught him were – Drug rehabilitation centre for juveniles, lives of the stage dancers from Bihar, surrogacy in Anand, manual scavengers, coalmine workers of Jharia, avian botulism in Sambhar salt lake. From the mass migration until the cremation, his pandemic documentation was globally acknowledged. Human interest and socio-cultural topics continue to intrigue him.Ravi's work has been published in a number of national and international newspapers and online portals. He currently resides in New Delhi.
